PRESS: VK said asking govt for help in buying computing equipment
MOSCOW, Apr 25 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company VK has asked the Digital Development Ministry for help to search a vendor that would sell servers and data storage systems, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.
A government source told the daily that VK sent a letter earlier in April to the ministry with a request for assistance in a purchase of “tens of thousands servers.” The company cannot buy commercial lots of computing equipment needed for its current operations and development on the market, the source said.
The ministry confirmed receiving the letter and said it is taking the measures with participation of the Industry and Trade Ministry.
VK told the daily that the company sees increased activities of users, which raises load on infrastructure, but assures that it “has the necessary reserve of capacities to ensure trouble-free work of services for a continued period.”
